RE: Staten Island

The Staten Island Advance, our local paper, is sort of a guilty pleasure. I read the letters often enough, but I always refrain from replying to people because it accomplishes as much as listening to myself talk. That's what the internet is for. Now, with the appropriate venue, I plan to tackle the nonsense I often seen in my local paper.

 Pretty much.

I tried to illustrate this idea once in a religion class’s abortion/anti-abortion debate.  In the course of the conversation I kept coming back to the idea that pro-lifers were ultimately looking to protect male fetuses because they fell outside of this cycle.  This comic perfectly illustrates the what I couldn’t completely articulate at that time.

The last panel made me go FUUUUUUUUUUU at the computer screen. I am not ashamed.

This pretty much illustrates my first opposite sex relationship.  Things are very wrong when I feel like I’m being pigeon holed into the role of “nagging girlfriend”.
Yet my home life and family has not been like this.  Sure, Ma did the laundry, and Pop did the finances.  However, Pop ran the errands and did stuff around the house while Ma held down the 9-5.  I never see this shit until I step outside my door.

Feminism =/= Flannel: My fellow omegle strangers, a word of advice.

Declaring “you sound like a female” right after popping the “asl” question is going to ping my creep-dar. In fact, most uses of the word “female” when proceeded by the article “a” will ping. It’s rare to hear statements following that word pairing that I don’t find some offense. I’ll keep talking…

Lincoln kind of looks like a serial killer in this picture.

Sadly, this quote is very relevant.  I’m going to try renaming the tea baggers ‘know nothings’.  Probably won’t stick, but whatever.

Staten Island Marches Against Hate Crime

(via myholigay)

This almost makes up for the massive amounts of fail people wrote on silive.com and what made it into the SI Advance.

How many rallies do we need to get through to people?

NY TIMES: If Elena Kagan is confirmed, there will be four native New Yorkers on the Supreme Court. Which means Frank Sinatra and Jay-Z will now sing SCOTUS's official theme songs.

(via inothernews)

On the radio this morning some disc-jockey was whining, “And Staten Island is left out once again!”

Oh yes, we’re the “Forgotten Borough”.  Whatever.  That would still 4 justices on the bench for the highest court in the land from NYC out of the whole country. Plus, I don’t have to cringe at any Conservative ones being from my little borough (and double cringe at the locals’ adamant support of this hypothetical SI Justice’s Fox News talking points).
